Halitosis (Bad Breath) | ||
|
The odors we usually associate with bad breath are from volatile sulfur compounds. These are produced from the enzymatic breakdown of proteins. Most of the enzymes responsible for bad breath are bacterial. In healthy people with no dental decay or gum disease, these odor comes from bacteria living on the tongue. Both dental decay and gum disease are also the result of bacterial breakdown of oral tissues. As a result, these dental diseases are frequently the cause of bad breath. Treatment of these diseases and well done oral hygiene will correct most bad breath. Brushing or scraping the tongue is usually important in good breath smell. CloSYS II is a chlorine dioxide based oral hygiene system that helps kill the odor and disease. In addition, it destroys most of the volatile sulfur compounds that cause bad breath.
